Tonight at 6pm the East Longmeadow School Committee will meet to discuss guidance from the Department of Elementary and Secondary Education (DESE) concerning COVID vaccination for children between 5 and 11 years old.

DESE’s vaccine guidance was sent to school leaders throughout the state via a letter dated October 28.
The letter begins,
As we prepare for federal recommendations for COVID-19 vaccinations for children ages 5-11…we are writing…to strongly encourage schools and local communities to take an active role in promoting and administering COVID-19 vaccinations for this age group.
The letter goes on to suggest several ways schools can encourage parents to vaccinate their small children. These suggestions include,
Sending a tailored version of the attached template letter to all parents/guardians
Posting information about vaccine locations, vaccine safety information, and helpful Q&As (available at http://www.mass.gov/covidvaccine) to school websites and message
Meeting with your PTA/PTO to discuss ways to reach a wider parent audience
Working with your athletics department to further encourage COVID-19 vaccination among students and their parents
DESE then goes further by pushing schools to invite mobile vaccination clinics to elementary schools.
We urge all schools to host on-site vaccination clinics once children ages 5-11 are eligible.
If you’re opposed to subjecting our children to these measures, please attend tonight’s meeting and state your objections to the committee members.
