Without citing a single law, the town’s attorney deemed our health board reform petition “ineffective and impermissible.”

Town attorney’s letter:

According to the East Longmeadow Charter (article 8-3b), if the town’s attorney rejects a proposed initiative he must “state the reasons for this opinion, in full.”

I contend that his response does not comply with the charter and that the 50+ voters who signed the proposed initiative deserve a full explanation for its rejection, backed up by specific statutes, regulations, and charter provisions.
